Julia McKenzie.

The main reason I love Julia McKenzie's work is because nature inspires her work as it does mine. Her message is clear in her work that she is bridging the gap between her urban living and the natural world. I want to achieve this in my own work comparing how beautiful nature is to the everyday urban surroundings I live in. Her layered drawings with paper cuts are beautiful expressing how she picks the things that are overlooked and forgotten.

West north wood. Ink and collage.

Urchin. Ink, shellac and paper cut.

Highlands. Ink and collage.

The way she mixes a range of different materials is really intriguing the mix of the solid shapes through her use of collage and then the fragile, delicate marks created in her ink drawings.
