College Unit 1.

To start the college course we were asked to work in groups to collect things that could bridge space I went a bit mad collecting wood, branches, grasses, seed pods, string, wire and much more. The aim was to get us to know one another and to bridge space between a frame each group was given. Once finished assembling the piece we were then asked to draw it.

drawings for the first group project.

research of artists that use nature to bridge space.
Here a sculpture of boxes with a projected image was set up for us to draw from. This drawing workshop tested your accuracy and patience with a complex pattern layered over a structure.

This next drawing workshop was aimed at improving our work on tones and reflection. It was a challenge due to all the reflective surfaces as it created more patterns and depth in the objects.

Here I started experimenting with 3D structures we were asked to take one of our shoes off and create a paper construction of it using only masking tape, art straws and paper.

For this piece of work we were looking into the use of tessellation. Using masking tape, paper doyleys and graphite powder I could make these patterns.

Colour theory really helped me understand how to improve my work by adding the right tones and colours to create depth. As seen in my practice piece of a city scape.

We were asked to try many different forms of mark making using a wide range of materials. We then chose the best and mounted them as a reference sheet.

Studying chiaroscuro we were partnered up once in pairs on person sat with a lamp against one side of their face casting the opposite side into darkness. The other person in the pair would draw them using only white chalk and compressed graphite.

Our final drawing workshop was to draw a complex structure using all the skills from the previous pieces; tone, structure, chiaroscuro and more.

We then went on a research trip to Manchester, I really liked nature so focused on finding great things to photograph along the way.

Next I started to draw from my research photos exploring different processes and media.

charcoal, and graphite pencil.

pencil study.
watercolour study.
Ink, white wax crayon, and graphite pencil.

Stick and ink drawing.

Using an marker pen that had little ink left.

negative space drawing with bleach.

artist research on using cellulose thinners to transfer/ print drawings and pictures.

experimentation with process.
marker pen, ink, and collage.

Here is my final piece I absolutely loved it then and still do now! I used pencil, gouache and watercolour paints.
