Artist research- Objects from Formby beach.

Jean Emmons botanical style works inspired me to look at the details of natural objects as their structure, colours, and organic shapes can inspire. Her attention to the intricate detail is beautiful.

Kew Gardens was also a massive inspiration in me changing my idea on this project from looking at nature in general to instead looking at natural objects rather. Although Kew Gardens is beautiful for walks and looking at the wildlife I found the galleries most intriguing. The composition of each object, drawing or painting really captures your attention.

 

 

Rosie Sanders is another botanical artist I have found and took inspiration from her use of watercolours. I love how she can achieve such detail in this medium and give the flowers a look of weightlessness.

 

Anthony Garratt.

Anthony Garratt and his expressionist pieces of work are what inspired me t first look at landscape art this semester and later lead on to me looking at nature more closely. his bold use of colour and gestural movements shock you as an audience and give his paintings life. Each landscape then has an atmosphere making you feel like you are there in the painting.

My own attempt at this style was tame compared but I think for a first attempt at becoming more adventurous with my brush strokes it can be built upon and improved with time.

Development of Screenprints.

For these I took inspiration from my artist research; Jennifer Judd Mc Gee, and Julia McKenzie. I wanted to work back into my silk screen prints so when looking at Jennifer Judd Mc Gees' work I took inspiration from her use of collage, natural shapes and patterns. So I started to look back at my photos and objects I collected from Formby beach and chose the shapes I found most interesting. I love this first water colour painting as I found the seaweeds structure intriguing and by placing it at the top of the portrait it also seems as though it is representing the shape of a brain. Using materials I already had such as ink and maps is what led me to look into Julia McKenzie's work. I like the expressive way she creates her collages and ink studies I wish my attempts were more fluid and less constrained.

Trip to Glasgow.

Recently I went to Glasgow for a weekend break, whilst there I explored the city and visited sight seeing spots. Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum was the highlight of the trip. Not only was the architecture breath-taking but the art and historical objects were fascinating.

Artworks- Generation Z exhibition.

After visiting Islington Mill today we went on to go and have a look around the Generation Z exhibition and then were invited to visit the studios in the building. I really enjoyed this exhibition but looking around the studios a great insight into life after university. Speaking to past students off of the course who are now doing residencies at these studios was helpful in finding out about what it is like when you are no longer part of education.

 

 

Studio Visits- Islington Mill.

Today we visited Islington Mill, Salford, to have a look at the studio spaces they have on offer for graduate students. Our personal tutor was also telling us it was a good opportunity to have a look at the exhibition space available as that is where our exhibition in May will be. I really liked the welcoming and creative atmosphere they have there. There is so much going on and I love how bright the space is.
